Course Objectives

SAFE Yoga for Skeletal Health

Upon completion of this course, participants will:
  1. Have increased knowledge of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia, first signs and risk factors for these conditions, know how to identify people who may be at risk in their own clinic and/or class, and be able to make referrals to health professionals as necessary and indicated by specific client condition.
  2. Have an understanding of the Patterns of Postural Change© and how to use this information to design Yoga practice and class.
  3. Have an understanding of the philosophy of the program, be able to do the postures themselves, and be able to give instructions in these yoga postures.
  4. Be familiar with the history of Yoga, be able to do and teach Yoga postures safe for persons with osteoporosis. Understand "Principles of Movement" in Yoga so as to be able to give patients advice for participation in outside Yoga classes.
